MobileMusic (2008-2011)

MobileMusic is a longitudinal project, in which the mobile is developed and tested as 1) an interactive learning environment in the home (informal learning) and formal learning (music playschool/school), 2) a tool for creativity: active musical performance and improvisation and, 3) a research tool in studying the development of musical cognition, bodily and micro-social dimensions in every-day musical engagement and decision-making and, emotional experiences of music in children.

MobiKid, a pilot study started in 2006 as a cooperative project between the University of Jyväskylä (JY), University of Oulu (OY) and Oulu University of Applied Sciences (OAMK). The pedagogical design (Paananen JY, Fredrikson OY & Portaankorva OY), programming (Malinen OAMK) and, software and user design (Nissilä OY & Kuitunen JY) of the mobile allow children from 4–6 years to sing accompanied/non-accompanied songs, create music/songs to be recorded in home environment and forwarded to a server.
