Finnish forgers feeding the European art market

Forgeries have become all too common in the Finnish art scene over the past few years. Yes, the Finnish art scene!

From Finland, the forged artworks have spread widely through the international art market.

The criminal police have a vast forgery epidemic on their hands. The criminal benefit has risen to 20M€. Forged  works by “Degas”, “Leger”, “Picabia”, “Repin” and by many other artists have been sold on the international art market.

We asked Kimmo Nokkonen, Head of Investigations at The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) of Finland, to survey the current state of affairs.
