The Centre for Applied Language Studies (CALS) is a national expert unit specialized in studying the goals, practices and policies of language education.
The focal areas of research include language testing, the development of language proficiency in different contexts and communities of practice, and language education policy. The research conducted in the CALS is characterized by a multidisciplinary and applied approach that brings together perspectives from, for example, language study, sociology, educational research, and pedagogy.
The national duties of the CALS concern language testing and language education policy. Our activities are based on national and international networking and cooperation with researchers, decision makers, teachers, and other central actors in the field of language education.
The staff (ca 30 persons) consists of research and administrative personnel and personnel assisting in research.
