Mirja Tarnanen


Mirja Tarnanen, a researcher and a coordinator in The National Certificate of Language Proficiency project in CALS, has expertise in assessment, especially language testing and feedback practices, as well as learning Finnish as a second language. In this project, she studies assessment and feedback practices as a process in which the teacher and learners participate in the construction of knowledge and literacy skills in relation to the curriculum and the goals of learning. In the first stage, Tarnanen examines assessment practices with the survey. To gain a deeper understanding on the functionality of the assessment practices, she collects qualitative data based on the results of the first stage. The aim of the qualitative sub-study is to examine how learning of literacy skills can be effectively supported by assessment and feedback practices. Tarnanen is in charge of coordinating the survey in the first stage.
