Description of the project

The aim of my dissertation study is to examine the professional identity construction of doctoral students in the frame of applied language studies. It will also take a look at the salient linguistic discourses within an evolving institutional nexus, where the scholarly trajectories of doctoral students are shaped. The goal is to examine the topic not merely from a linguistic point of view but also through the actions, practices, experiences, and the entire life history of the people involved. The results will provide a better understanding of the path that doctoral students of different fields follow in order to become scholars. It will also map specific issues and challenges that these different types of career trajectories entail.
