Migrant NGO practitioners in Finland: Discourses on language, integration and employment

Researcher: Sonya Sahradyan

Description of the project

The main focus of my doctoral dissertation is on discourses about language, integration and employment in a non-governmental organisation (NGO) and within the wider Finnish context. In particular, the study analyses working life trajectories and linguistic resources of migrant NGO practitioners. The study also explores language policies and practices in the NGO as a workplace. The key participants are multilingual migrant NGO practitioners working as employees, apprentices, trainees, interns or volunteers in a superdiverse NGO based in Finland. The research includes different types of data collected through participant observations and interviews. The analytical framework of the study draws from the traditions of narrative and discourse analysis.
