Description

The aim of my PhD study is to analyze the language practices of the vocational qualification in social and health care, practical nursing, arranged as a labor market training for adults. The analysis is qualitative and is focused on two questions: 1) In what kind of contexts do practical nurses need language?, and, 2) What is the Level of language skills required in the fields where practical nurses use language? Sociolinguistic and functional analysis are used as research windows in my analysis where the part of the practical nurse education called Nursing and care, is focused.

The material in my analysis is collected from the criteria of the vocational qualification in social and health care, practical nursing (Board of Education 2010/2014), and from interviews with practical nursing students and their tutors in different practical training places. The aim of this study is to make meaning of the language and the criteria of practical nursing education easier to understand for those who cooperate in the multicultural processes of this vocational qualification.
