Research team

  • The team leader Dr. Marja Järvelä has been the Professor in Social and Public Policy since 1992 at the University of Jyväskylä. She has acted as a team leader in environmental social scientific projects since 1991. Her first project was on ’Climate Change, Living Environment and Ways of Life’ funded by the Academy of Finland as part of the Finnish Research Programme on Climate Change ’SILMU’. Since then she has been leader or a partner in charge of several other research projects funded by the Academy of Finland. She has experience of locality studies in Europe, Africa and Russia.
  • Dr. Hanna-Leena Pesonen is Professor in corporate environmental management at the University of Jyväskylä and the leader of the research project BRIGADE (Bridging the value-action gap – combining producer, consumer and expert perspectives for sustainable food consumption).
  • Dr. Pekka Jokinen is Professor in natural resources policy in the University of Joensuu, Finland. His main research interests are in environmental policy and politics, policy networks and governance, rural sociology, and in agriculture and the environment.   • Dr. (Econ.) Ari Paloviita is Senior Lecturer in corporate environmental management at the University of Jyväskylä. He also holds a college degree in agriculture.
  • MA (Soc.) Antti Puupponen is a PhD student in Social and Public Policy specializing in rural development and farm livelihoods.
  • M. Sc. (Eng); MA (Soc.) Suvi Huttunen is Junior Lecturer in Social and Public Policy in the University of Jyväskylä. She is preparing her PhD on farm scale renewable energy production.
