From sick care to health care in environmental ethics: developing the environmental capabilities approach

The objective of the PhD study is to outline a transition from sick care to health care in environmental ethics, using the theoretical framework of environmental capabilities approach.

While practical environmental ethics has received increasing interest during the 21st century, there are still serious shortcomings that must be solved. Most importantly, environmental ethics has focused on environmental problems and treated them as isolated questions, keeping for example climate change and biodiversity decline as separate issues. This emphasis has made environmental ethics a fragmentary project that has mainly focused on “sick care” and after-treatment instead of promoting environmental well-being and sustainable life more broadly. My research contributes to filling these gaps and outlines a transition from sick care to health care in environmental ethics.
