Political Science

My fields of interest include rhetoric, especially its history and applications in different political contexts, history of political thought and parliamentary studies.

My current research continues in the nineteenth-century British culture of debate and the transfer of parliamentary ideas between debating societies and the House of Commons. I am mainly interested in the political use of rules of procedure as part of the parliamentary setting and how those rules have been adopted, especially, in the debating practices of the Cambridge and Oxford Union Societies. It is also part of my project to show the continuing importance of Roman and Renaissance rhetoricians' theories in understanding the changes of political culture in the nineteenth-century British parliamentary life.
