Perälä Mika, Postdoctoral Researcher

My main research interests are in ancient philosophy, especially Aristotle’s psychology and ethics, and in the philosophy of perception. My current research reconsiders the way in which Aristotle accounts for perception, memory and thought of singular items. My aim is to propose an alternative to the widely held view that he gives his account in accidental terms. In an article which is forthcoming in the Journal of the History of Philosophy I have shown how this can be done in the case of thought, and I am extending this approach to other cognitive functions in my ongoing Academy of Finland post-doctoral project entitled ‘Aristotle on memory’.
