Biography

I studied philosophy at the University of Helsinki (PhD 2000) and was appointed docent of philosophy at the same university in 2009. Since 2013 I am Senior lecturer in gender studies at the University of Jyväskylä.

Research

My research focuses on the history of women philosophers and feminist thought, particularly during the 17th and 18th Centuries. The rediscovery of forgotten thinkers reconstructs the canon of philosophy and contributes to a deeper understanding of how the meaning of concepts essential to contemporary feminist theory - such as equality, difference, sex and gender - have developed.

I am currently editing a volume of Finnish translations of early feminist treatises, including Renaissance, Early Modern and Enlightenment works by Lucrezia Marinella, Marie le Jars de Gournay, François Poulain de la Barre, Catherine Macaulay, and others. The team working on the volume includes translators Tuomas Parsio and doc. Erika Ruonakoski as well as advisory members prof. Marguerite Deslauriers (McGill University) and prof. Mikko Yrjönsuuri. The project is funded by the Kone Foundation.

In 2018-2019 I am co-editor-in-chief for the national Finnish journal for gender studies Sukupuolentutkimus-Genusforskning.

In 2016-2017 I was academic board member of the Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership Gender and Philosophy.
