Admission Criteria for the Master's Degree Programme in Cultural Policy

Eligible applicants should have:

1) Bachelor's Degree

Applicants need to have obtained a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Preference will be given to students with a major in social sciences or philosophy. Eligible applicants may also hold a Bachelor of Arts degree. Those holding a BA are qualified if they have previous studies in social sciences (preferably intermediate-level studies).

If you graduate after the application deadline but not later than 29  July 2016, or receive your degree certificate after the application deadline, you may apply for the programme. See: Required Documents

2) Good command of English

Applicants need to have a good command of English, both spoken and written. All applicants are required to have completed one of the language tests listed below, with the exception of applicants who have completed high school, upper secondary school or higher education fully in English in Great Britain, Ireland, the USA, Canada, Australia or New Zealand.

  • The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): TOEFL internet based test, minimum score 92, TOEFL Paper Based Test, minimum score 580
    • The University Admission Finland DI code for TOEFL-test is 3138.
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS): overall band score 6.5
  • Cambridge ESOL’s Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): minimum grade C
  • Cambridge ESOL’s Certificate in Advanced English (CAE): minimum grade C
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE): minimum grade 59
  • National Certificate of Language Proficiency, which must be passed at least with intermediate level 4

3) Motivation and interest towards cultural policy

Applicants should show motivation and interest in cultural policy as a field of study. Applicants are expected to write a motivation letter of no more than 800 words. In the letter applicants should give evidence of their interest in cultural policy and their reasons for applying. It is also possible to provide a description of preliminary research interests for the master’s thesis in the motivation letter.
