Information on admission to degree or exchange programmes at the Faculty of Information Technology

    Bachelor's Degree Programmes

    Please note that all our undergraduate provision is delivered in Finnish only and therefore we are unable to recruit international students to our Bachelor's Degree programmes.

     

    Master's Degree Programmes

    Application Period

    The application period for our international Master's Degree Programmes delivered in English is annually  around  December-January time. We do not accept applications outside the application period. The exact dates are published on the webpages of the individual programmes.

    Admissions Criteria

    The common, essential admissions criteria for the international MSc programmes are:

    • A Bachelor's Degree (first cycle UG academic degree) with good grades in a relevant field; please note that Bachelor's degrees in our Faculty are delivered in Finnish language only.
    • English Language Certificate, the accepted tests being:
    Please obtain the language certificate well in advance of the application period to ensure that your application will not miss the deadline due to long queues at the test centres!
      • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 580 (Paper Based Test) or 92 (Internet Based Test); or
      • IELTS (International English Language Testing System, Academic module) score should be 6.5 or above; or
      • A passing grade of C in CAE or CPE; or
      • Pearson Test of English - Academic- (PTE) score of 59 or above.

    One of the above language certificates will be required from all applicants, with the only exception of applicants:

      • who have completed their upper secondary school studies in English language in the Nordic Countries, Great Britain, Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or one of the Nordic countries (no other countries are considered for exemption).
      • who have completed their Bachelor's or Master's Degree in English in an EU or EEA country or in the USA, Canada, Australia or New Zealand (no other countries are considered for exemption).

    It is recommended that the test is taken at least 2-3 months before the application deadline to ensure that the results are available on time!

      Doctoral Studies

      Application Period

      Applications are accepted twice a year with the deadlines of 31 March and 30 September.

      Admissions Criteria

      To be eligible to apply, an applicant must have:

      • A Master's Degree with sufficient studies in the subjects of the Faculty or in subjects closely related to them. A degree in a related major subject (e.g. mathematics, business administration, psychology) may be accepted if your earlier studies, interests, and work experience support the studies at the Faculty.
      • Fluency in Finnish, Swedish, or English is required. Applicants without Finnish or Swedish language skills must be able to provide evidence on their English language profi­cien­cy by:
        • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 580 (Paper Based Test) or 92 (Internet Based Test); or
        • IELTS (International English Language Testing System, Academic module) score should be 6.5 or above.

      Exchange/ Visiting Students

      Exchange/ visiting students are students who are enrolled at another university and spend one semester or a year studying at the University of Jyväskylä. We co-operate actively with our ERASMUS and bilateral partner universities and welcome circa 30 exchange students to the Faculty each year.
