TITLE: Self-* Memetic Algorithms

ABSTRACT: Adaptability and resilience are two salient features of evolutionary and memetic algorithms, making a decisive contribution to the ultimate success of these techniques. In order to canalize and exploit these features, a long standing goal in the field has been endowing the algorithm with self-management/self-control abilities in order to react and readjust its behavior in response to the properties of the problem or to the nature of the computational substrate. Such abilities fall under the umbrella term of self-* properties. This talk provides an overview of recent research in this direction, particularly outlining different mechanisms to boost the resilience and performance of memetic algorithms in unstable computational environments.
