Licentiate thesis

last modified Aug 14, 2014 01:31 PM

Licentiate thesis deals with a research problem in the student's particular research field, and is based on literature and the students own research. The thesis should demonstrate that the writer is well acquainted with its topic and has dealt with the subject matter in an independent way and presented it in a professional manner. The subject of the licentiate thesis should be such that it could be used as a basis to continue for a doctoral dissertation. It may consist of several scientific articles or investigations on the same research topic together with a summary.

Thesis work that is part of the doctoral degree can be used as a basis for the more limited licentiate thesis, which together with the postgraduate studies allows the student to obtain a licentiate degree. In that case, the thesis manuscript which has received a printing permission, can be approved as a licentiate degree with the grade 'approved'.
