Agora-edestäThe Department of Mathematical Information Technology operates under the Faculty of Information Technology and is responsible for teaching and research in the pantechnicon-scientific field. The department is relatively young, as it was founded in 1998 at the same time as the faculty, but its roots go back to the 1980's, when the Department of Mathematics started teaching mathematical information technology.

The Department of Mathematical Information Technology is situated in the multidisciplinary Agora building, on the shores of lake Jyväsjärvi, ever since the building was finished in the autumn 2000.

The Department of Mathematical Information Technology was among the first ones to adopt the pan-European two-tier degree system in the autumn 2002. Thanks to the new degree system the mobility of the students will improve and they will qualify as versatile specialists of information technology, who can work in companies and corporations as well as in educational and research institutes.

The secretariat of the department is the primary address for any inquiries concerning the department and can redirect them if necessary. The departmental amanuensis and study counsellors will help with study concerns.
