EBEN PhD workshop

PhD candidates are invited to attend a one-day pre-conference doctoral seminar on Tuesday June 13, 2017. The aim of the workshop is to provide guidance and support for advancing the student’s doctoral dissertation and the presentation of her/his ideas. The workshop will consist of a joint programme for all the participants and individual mentoring discussions.

For accepted  PhD candidates, who will be allocated to a scholarly mentor with whom  they can discuss their dissertation proposal. The workshop will thus provide a networking opportunity for PhD students with each other and with scholars in the field. In the selection process, preference will be given to PhD students who have started their dissertation projects after 2013.

Proposal

Applicants for the doctoral seminar should state their name and contact information, and the title of their dissertation. In addition, we ask for a submission that captures the content of the PhD project. Two types of submission formats are possible:

  1. A short paper (max 5000 words including references, 12 font Times New Roman, 1.5 line spacing). At the beginning of the paper, the student should clearly point out how the paper is a part of the PhD project. This paper can be a joint publication or individually written.
  2. A research proposal (max 5000 words including references, 12 font Times New Roman, 1.5 line spacing) that does not focus in detail on any particular paper but presents the overall framework (research problem, theory, method and analysis) of the PhD thesis.

How to submit your proposal for the PhD seminar:

An e-mail message with the article as an attachment to EBEN doctoral workshop should be sent to the following email: marjo.siltaoja@jyu.fi. Use "Submission for the EBEN doctoral workshop " as the subject in the email address block. Your e-mail should include the

(1) proposal as an attachment,
(2) the author’s name,
(3) the title of the proposal,
(4) an abstract of no more than 150 words  and
(5) brief indication why the proposal is suitable for EBEN doctoral workshop.

Deadline

Applications must be submitted by March 1, 2017.
