Dr. Aaron Mailman

Aaron MailmanAaron earned his Ph.D. (inorganic chemistry) from the University of New Brunswick under the supervision of Prof. Jack Passmore investigating the cycloaddition and oxidative dehydrogenation chemistry of the simple SNS+ cation with quinone derivatives and the radicals thus formed. His research activities as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Waterloo with Prof. Richard Oakley were focused on the synthesis, electrochemical, spectroscopic and transport properties of heterocyclic main group radicals at both ambient and elevated pressures (up to 10 GPa). As a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Experienced Researcher (H2020-MSCA-IF:659123), Aaron's aim is to design and prepare new highly delocalized open shell main group heterocycles that could be used as building blocks for functional molecular magnetic materials. Of particular importance is the coordination of the prepared radicals to paramagnetic metal centers and the intelligent control of the formed intra- and inter-molecular spin interactions.
