Dr. Heikki M. Tuononen

Heikki M. TuononenMy research activities involve chemists with synthetic and computational backgrounds and interests in examining the chemistry of stable radicals and unconventional main group compounds. The latter includes systems in which main group elements exhibit, for example, atypical oxidation states, multiple bonding, high formal charges or strained bonding environments. Besides being important for advancing our understanding of the fundamentals of molecular structure, the investigated systems are of practical value as their properties and reactivities could allow their use in practical applications. The group has attracted strong extramural support for recruiting students and postdoctoral fellows since 2009. At the moment, the research involves 1 Marie-Skłodowska Curie researcher, 2 postdoctoral fellows and 6 graduate students (5 Ph.D. level and 1 M.Sc. level). Individual research projects are / have been funded by the University of Jyväskylä, the European Union (H2020-MSCA-IF), the Academy of Finland, the Technology Industries of Finland Centennial Foundation, the Inorganic Materials Chemistry Graduate Program, the Foundation for Research of Natural Resources in Finland as well as several other private Finnish foundations.
