Department of Chemistry

Current vacancies

At the moment, we are looking for Undergraduate Students who would be completing their B.Sc. projects in 2017 (spring term). If you are interested in joining our group, please do not hesitate to contact our faculty members for further information on available positions and research projects.

General information about Undergraduate (B.Sc.) and Graduate (M.Sc. and Ph.D.) Student positions in the group

All undergraduate positions are short term (five weeks) non-paid internships that form the basis for student's B.Sc. project (KEMA250). The B.Sc. degree requirements also include a written report of the conducted laboratory work as well as a short literature survey on a topic related to the project (KEMA260). Please note that all of our B.Sc. positions are for chemistry students already registered at the University of Jyväskylä!

Graduate (M.Sc.) positions are three to four month research assistantships and typically come with a small stipend (approx. 1200-1500 € per month). A Research Assistant conducts independent but supervised research on a given topic that forms the basis for student's M.Sc. project (KEMS340 or KEMS450). The M.Sc. degree requirements also include a written report of the conducted laboratory project as well as a 50 page literature survey on a topic related to the project. Please note that all of our M.Sc. positions are for chemistry students already registered at the University of Jyväskylä! Further information on our international M.Sc. Programmes, and the M.Sc. Programme in Nanoscience in particular, is available online.

Graduate (Ph.D.) positions are for four years (1+3) and are fully paid (salary + regular employer's benefits). Doctoral studies are coordinated by the Faculty of Mathematics and Science Doctoral School. Further information about admission and degree requirements is available online. If you are interested in applying to our Doctoral Programme in Chemistry, please contact our faculty members for up-to-date information about ongoing projects and available funding opportunities (if any).

General information about postdoctoral and visiting researcher fellowships in the group

Postdoctoral positions in the group are advertised at the University's website for current vacancies. Visiting Researchers and Postdoctoral Fellows who can provide their own funding are, in principle, welcomed at all times. We are always keen to support and sponsor junior academics and other early career researchers who submit grant applications to funding agencies such as the Academy of Finland (Postdoctoral Researchers and Academy Research Fellows) or the European Commission (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowships and ERC Starting Grants). At the moment, only limited financial support can be offered for Visiting Researchers and more senior academics. Further details about different funding opportunities can be obtained from our faculty members.
