PhD studies at the Department of Chemistry

Structure of studies 2017-2020

In the new curriculum 2017-2020, post graduate studies consists of 30 ECTS, of which at least 17 ECTS must be advanced level courses in the major subject. In addition, studies in research skills (1 ECTS) and communication skills (2 ECTS) must be completed. The rest of the studies can be other courses or credits obtained from teaching, attending conferences etc.  With their supervisor, doctoral students have to make a personal postgraduate study plan on the basis of the syllabus. Supervisors can advise on suitable courses.

Structure of studies before autumn 2017

Postgraduate students who have commenced their studies before autumn 2017 can complete their PhD studies according to the old curriculum until 31 July 2020. (The rector's decision on curricular transition)

According to the curriculum valid until autumn 2017, postgraduate studies consist of 60 ETCS in total and must include a minimum of 30 ETCS advanced level major subject courses. The remaining studies should support the major subject and promote research. It is possible to cover the 60 ETCS post graduate studies with an advanced level study entity of another chemistry discipline if it is relevant for the research.

  • ECTS credits earned through work (teaching, conferences, posters etc) according to old degree structure
  • Advanced level minor study entity in inorganic or organic chemistry:
    • Research work in the minor subject 24 ECTS
    • Laboratory works in the minor subject 10 ECTS
