State-of-the-art chemistry infrastructure

The modern and well-equipped research laboratories of the Department of Chemistry at University of Jyväskylä provide versatile possibilities for high-quality, international research projects as well as teaching, not forgetting the expertise and research services available for interest groups. The Department accommodates numerous different laboratories, whose personnel keeps their knowledge up-to date and trains future experts. The synthesis laboratories of the Department of Chemistry at University of Jyväskylä master demanding techniques required for natural product and main group chemistry synthetics as well as preparation of supramolecular systems. The NMR laboratory, which was updated in 2016, provides means for structural analysis both in solution and in solid state and equips i.a. an 800 MHz NMR spectrometer with a triple-resonance probehead. The X-ray and mass spectrometry laboratories operating under the area of strength of structural chemistry enable projects related to solid state or gas phase chemistry. The analytical chemistry laboratories have expertise in not only ICP and AAS utilized mainly for metal analytics, but also in thermoanalysis and analyses suitable for paper and pulp industry. In addition to measurements performed by IR-, UV-Vis, and Raman spectrometers, the laboratory of optical spectroscopy develops novel uses of laser beams. The microscopes (SEM, TEM, AFM) at the use of the Department are suitable for imaging most of the samples, and a wide group of molecular modelers helps in finding solutions to problems by theoretical means. The laboratory of chemistry education provides laboratory classes for the pupils as well as refresher courses for teachers.
