NMR laboratories facility

The modern and well-equipped NMR laboratories of the Faculty of Mathematics and Science provide possibilities for high-quality structural analysis both in solution and in solid state. The laboratories, which were fully updated in 2016, equip four NMR spectrometers with fields varying from 300 MHz to 800 MHz. Bruker Avance III HD 300 MHz spectrometer is used not only for the routine analysis of organic compounds, but utilized widely for the studies of inorganic nuclei as well. In addition to the BBO probehead for liquid state measurements, the Avance 400 MHz spectrometer accommodates HR-MAS and CP-MAS probeheads for the research of semi-solid and solid materials. Bruker Avance III 500 MHz NMR spectrometer, for one, utilizes TCI Prodigy cryoprobe and can thus be used for the structural analysis of supramolecular systems, complicated natural products, and even proteins with MWs of as high as 10 kDa. The Bruker Avance III HD 800 MHz NMR spectrometer located in the Nanoscience Center with its triple-resonance cryoprobe, being one of a kind in Finland with respect of its composition, enables demanding structural studies of large (bio)molecules. In addition to the NMR research groups, the NMR laboratories are widely utilized by the students and research groups of the Departments of Chemistry as well as Biology and Environmental Sciences.
