History of Nanoscience days

nano_kaulanauhat.jpg

The Nanoscience Days seminars started in 2004, at the opening ceremony of the Nanoscience Center.  The opening ceremony involved many famous scientists and from that on the tradition has continued in the form of Nanoscience Days. Since then, about 100 famous international scientists from variety of fields of nanoscience have been participating the conference. In particularly, some Nobel prize winners like Jean-Pierre Sauvage, J. Fraser Stoddart and Stefan Hell. Also, the Faculty’s doctor of honour prof. Ara Apkarian has been presenting his results several times in Nanoscience Days.

Many people were doubtful of attracting international big names to Jyväskylä, but over years, an internationally esteemed group of scientists have been in attendance. With all three disciplines inviting their own top names, the selection has been extensive. Attendance quickly rose to some 250 researchers. The program for the two-day event is always the same: four to five speakers per day, poster session and an informal dinner on the fist evening.
