General Information

A hyphenated system including a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) instrument witha Fourier Transform-infrared (FT-IR) analyzer, a gas chromatograph (GC) and a mass selective spectrometer (MS).

The thermogravimetric analyzer measures the weight loss of samples upon heating. The device can typically perform the following measurements: thermal loss, decomposition studies, weight % loss. With FT-IR and MS instruments it’s possible to combine other measurements with the thermogravimetric analysis. (=> evolved gas analysis)

Sample mass range: from 1 to about 50 mg

Sample Atmosphere: Static or dynamic, including nitrogen or air. Analyses are done at normal pressures.

Sample pans

  • Platinum or Ceramic with capacity of 60 μL

Standard furnace

  • Temperature range: Subambient to 1000 °C
  • Scanning rates: 0.1 to 100 °C/min
  • Temperature precision: ± 2 °C

 

Cooling

  • Forced air cooled with an external fan and internal booster purge
  • Standard Furnace: 1000 °C to 40 °C in less than 15 minutes under normal operation

Balance

  • Tare: Reproducible to ±2 μg
  • Sensitivity: 0.1 μg
  • Accuracy: Better than 0.02 %
  • Precision: 0.001 %

TGA design: A vertical design with a high sensitivity balance and quick response furnace. The balance is located above the furnace and is thermally isolated from it. A precision hang-down wire is suspended from the balance down into the furnace. At the end of the hang-down wire is the sample pan. The sample pan’s position is reproducible.
