Active research in the Faculty of Mathematics and Science

Faculty of Mathematics and Science offers wide spectrum and multi-disciplinary of research, with several world-leading research groups. Focusing on the core research areas has increased research strengths of the Faculty and established a distinguished position in the national as well as in the international context. Our faculty is involved in five Centres of Excellence nominated by the Academy of Finland, has two Academy Professors and two FiDiPro-Professors. Cooperation with other universities, research institutes, such as CERN, GSI, Brookhaven, FAIR, Oxford, Cambridge, and various research groups around the globe produce high level scientific knowledge published in acknowledged international journals. Faculty has substantial research infrastructure for both experimental and theoretical research.

Team POCKIT from as semifinalist for Helsinki challenge and is creating a device for patients to test for multiple microbes and different stages of disease all at once. This could save millions of euros and stop the spreading of communicable infectious diseases.
