Completion Time and Extension of Study Time

The standard completion time for a Master’s degree is two academic years. However, a student admitted to a Master’s degree programme has, by law, the right to complete the degree within two additional years of the designated study time. Thus, the maximum completion time for a Master's Degree is four years.

Students have the right to defer their studies and they must be registered as absent during that time. Students cannot defer the start of their studies unless due to national service, maternity or paternity leave or serious illness. Non-attendance or deferral is not deducted from the maximum completion time when the deferral is due to national service, maternity or paternity leave or serious illness. Furthermore, a student can register as absent for two semesters without those absent semesters being deducted from the overall study time; students are advised to register each year either as ‘absent’ or ‘in attendance’ for this reason.
