Nanoscience Center

physics laboratory

The Nanoscience Center has free access to the research equipment of the Departments of Physics, Chemistry and Biological and Environmental Science.

Research facilities and instruments

Nanoscience center is a high-level research environment that provides diverse repertoire of research equipment for cross disciplinary research combining expertise of physics, chemistry and biology.

Physicists have modern laboratory equipment like a cleanroom, thin film growth apparatus, electron beam microscope for litography, atomic force microscope for surface characterisation, cryostats and a supercomputer. Chemists has modern synthesis laboratories, diffractometers and NMR spectrometers for structural research. A number of laser setups for different experiments in spectroscopy are in use in the Nanoscience center. Jyväskylä Imaging facility is situated in the Department of Biological and Environmental Science and in the Nanoscience center. It provides infrastructure for high-resolution imaging and image analysis for students and researchers in biology, chemistry, physics and nanoscience.

Nanoscience Center is an associate member of Laserlab-Europe. Laserlab-Europe is an EU funded Consortium of European Laser Research Infrastructures, where new developments in laser research take place in a flexible and co-ordinated fashion beyond the potential of a national scale.

The sauna and meeting room

There are high-quality meeting and sauna facilities on the top floor of Nanoscience Center for hire. The facilities have a sauna and a meeting space.
