Conference venue

The conference will take place in the Agora of the University of Jyväskylä. Agora is situated in Mattilanniemi science campus (street address: Mattilanniemi 2) by the lake Jyväsjärvi, ca. 1.5km from the Jyväskylä city centre. The center has a spirit of its own by the lake side. The beautiful white Agora building is located by the lake, just less than 10 minute walk from the city center. The main conference hotel, Hotel Alba, is 50 meters away from the Agora. Agora is a modern building with three auditoriums, several lecture rooms and a restaurant, which all make it an excellent venue to hold a conference. All lecture halls are equipped with on-site computer (PC), dataprojector and audio and microphone systems. Portable laptops can be connected to the centralized system.

The University of Jyväskylä is a nationally and internationally significant research university and an expert on education focusing on human and natural sciences. Jyväskylä possesses a highly popular multidisciplinary university with a total of seven faculties and about 16 000 students. The core fields in research and education are natural sciences, sport and health sciences, and teacher education.

The Nanoscience Center and Departments of the Biological and Environmental Science, Chemistry and Physics are within a five minute walk over a walking bridge on the other side of the lake.

Jyväskylä is the capital of Central Finland, and is located in the middle of area full of lakes. The city has some 136 000 inhabitants, and the university is one of the biggest in Finland. Jyväskylä is an active and attractive city of sports and well-being located in the heart of the beautiful Finnish lake district. Jyväskylä is renowned as a city of education and sports and as a centre for a wide range of events. Culture lovers can enjoy a voyage into the creations of world-famous architect Alvar Aalto, as Jyväskylä is his home city. The region boasts almost 30 buildings designed by Aalto, representing all of his styles – which is more than anywhere else in the world. They are complemented by new, modern buildings forming a compact city centre with youthful appeal. In Jyväskylä the social programme is always a surprise.
