International Master's Degree Programmes

The following Master's degree programmes are fully delivered in English. Full-time studies in the programmes last for two academic years and consist of 120 ECTS credits. The programmes lead to a Master of Sport Sciences degree. The annual application period is from November until January for studies starting in the following September.

Master's Degree Programme in Biology of Physical Activity (MasterBPA)

The programme educates academic experts who understand the interactive mechanisms between different physiological systems and physical exercise, and their theoretical background. The programme offers three fields of specialisation: biomechanics, exercise physiology and science of sport coaching and fitness testing. The programme is designed to prepare students for careers in research centres, medical rehabilitation centres, sports medicine and exercise testing centres, sports academies and physical exercise and sports organisations. It also qualifies students to apply for postgraduate studies in the field.

Master's Degree Programme in Sport and Exercise Promotion (SportPro)

The students will enhance their understanding within sport culture, exercise promotion and sport psychology. They will gain gain the basic professional skills and knowledge needed in occupations requiring academic education. They will also find their own pathway within the study network and strengthen their growth as experts in their profession. There are two possible specialisation areas: Sport Management or Sport Psychology.

  • The last intake for the SportPro programme was in September 2018. Currently the study areas of Sport Management and Sport Psychology are being revised and updated, and the information about the next possible international student intake in these fields of science will be available in summer 2019.

Financial facts related to studying in the Master's Degree Programme

  • There are no tuition fees for EU/EEA citizens. As of 2017 intake, non-EU/non-EEA citizens will pay a tuition fee, but there is a possibility to apply for a scholarship to cover the tuition fee.
  • Master's students need to join the Student Union (JYY) and pay the membership fee.
  • Scholarships to cover living costs: generally international students need to self-finance their time in Jyväskylä.

Bachelor's Degree Studies

Bachelor's Degree studies at the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences are offered only in Finnish. In order to be able to study at an undergraduate level, the applicant must be fluent in Finnish. The Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences offers Bachelor's level education in the Social Sciences of Sport, Biology of Physical Activity, Sport Pedagogy and Health Sciences. Most of the Bachelor's Degree provision in English in Finland is located in the Universities of Applied Sciences.
