Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences


The Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences at the University of Jyväskylä is the only university level institution of sport sciences in Finland. In addition to sport sciences, the subjects which can only be studied at our faculty include the following subjects in health sciences: physiotherapy, gerontology and public health, sports medicine, health education.

There are more than 1200 students completing an undergraduate degree (Bachelor's and Master's) and approximately 140 doctoral students in our faculty. Every year around 100 Masters of Sport Sciences and 50 Masters of Health Sciences graduate from the faculty. The faculty also hosts two international Master's programmes.

The faculty functions in three different buildings within the campus area :

Faculty Building (Liikunta, L): The main building of the faculty

Faculty administration, Sports Pedagogy, Social Sciences of Sport,  Health Sciences (partly), Research Center of Health Promotion and the Gerontology Research Centre are located in the Faculty Building.

The teaching and research of Biology of Physical Activity and the Neuromuscular Research Centre function in the Viveca building (Viv).

Part of the teaching and research staff of Biology of Physical Activity and Health Sciences is situated in the Research laboratory (Tutkimuslaboratorio, LL). The building facilitates also our laboratories and a technical unit.
