Personality as a predictor of physical activity in middle-aged and old people: When and why? (PATHWAY project)

The PATHWAY project is funded by the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture (2018-2021). The project examines the role of child and adult personality in relation to physical activity in middle-aged and older people.

The project data are drawn from three existing studies on representative samples totaling over 1 700 participants aged from 8 to 85 years. The site of this interdisciplinary (sport and health sciences, psychology, gerontology, statistics) project is the Gerontology Research Center and Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences, University of Jyväskylä. Florida State University and LIKES Research Centre also contribute to the project.

The overall aim is to gain new insights into the individual factors behind physical activity or sedentary behavior that can be harnessed to promote a physically active lifestyle among middle-aged and older people.
