Winter School in Sport Sciences 2018

The University of Jyväskylä welcomes you to the International Winter School in Sport Sciences on 8-19 January 2018!


Students from universities and professionals from sport organizations all over the world are invited to apply for the Winter School in Sport Sciences. The programme is intended for undergraduate and graduate students as well as non-students from sport organizations interested especially in Social Sciences of Sport or Sport Management. The application period for the Winter School 2018 is from Oct 2 - Nov 2, 2017.


The distinctive quality and solid reputation of the Finnish education system brings thousands of international students to the country every year. Jyväskylä is an exceptionally attractive study destination with its combination of top-quality education and research, technologically advanced campus, safe and stable society, unique Nordic nature and landscape, and a wide range of sports and cultural events and activities.


      • International Perspectives to Organisation and Management of Sport, can be completed as either 2 or 4 ECTS credits (Mon 8 - Fri 12 Jan 2018)
      • Sport Marketing, can be completed as either 2 or 4 ECTS credits (Mon 15 - Fri 19 Jan 2018)
      • Winter Sports, 1 ECTS credit (only part time, can be taken simultaneously with the other two courses, Mon 8 - Fri 19 Jan 2018)

    (1 ECTS credit equals 27 hours of work completed both in and outside the classroom. Full time studies comprise of 60 ECTS credits per academic year.)

    NOTE: When selecting the students to the Winter School, applicants wanting to participate the whole programme (3 courses) will be preferred. It is not possible to take ONLY the Winter Sports module!


    Take part in the free time activities and get to know the “little big city” of Jyväskylä and your fellow Winter School students. And first of all: Have a good time!

    Free time programme includes:
    - cultural tours e.g. on the campus and museums
    - getting to know Finnish life and society e.g. by going to sauna and swimming in a frozen lake
    - informal get-togethers
    - sports (skiing, skating, sledging…)
    - and much more!


    Registration fee

    The registration fee (students from other universities than JyU and non-students) Winter School 2018 is 300€ including:

    • Practical assistance of a full-time tutor
    • Welcoming reception on Jan 8, 2018
    • A full Winter School 2018 Study Guide and Program from Jan 8-19, 2018
    • Tickets for Finnish Prime League ice hockey match
    • Recreational and social activities throughout the program
    • Closing ceremony dinner Jan 19, 2018 

    (Note that all equipment and facility entrance fees/tickets are included for those students who are participating the LPE0596 Winter Sport course, e.g. snow walking, cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, snowboarding, ice skating and ice-hockey)

    In addition to the registration fee, students are expected to pay for their travel to and from Jyväskylä, living expenses and accommodation while in Jyväskylä.


    Winter School participants will be accommodated in study-bedrooms with shared kitchens and bathrooms (for two weeks staying approx. 250€). The dead line for applying for accommdation is 30 Nov 2017. Student apartments are located within walking distance or a short bus ride away from the campus. You can apply for accommodation here.


    The application period for Winter School in Sport Sciences 2018 begins on 2 October and ends on 2 November 2017. Applicants will be informed of their acceptance by 16 November 2017.
