Tutkimusintressit / Research interests:

My research field is aging, physical activity, genetics and genomics with current focus on the microRNAs as the signal transduction agents that mediate the gene-lifestyle interactions. In my studies, I utilize human intervention and cohort studies in combination with model organism and cell culture (muscle and adipocyte precursory cell lines) experimentations. Broadly speaking my research interests are in the molecular biology of aging and its associations with physiological health and performance. I use a wide range of the methods of molecular genetics including epigenetics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and microRNA/gene/protein expression studies as well as objective and subjective physical activity measurements, performance measurements, body composition assessments and structured questionnaires to get deeper understanding of the phenomena under investigation. The major aim is to improve understanding of detailed molecular and physiological mechanisms responsible for the maintenance of healthy interaction between muscle and other tissues while age is advancing.
