Professor, FT
Department of Languages/English
University of Jyväskylä
Sirpa Leppänen

I work as Professor of English at university of Jyväskylä, where I teach applied linguistics, discourse analysis, narrative theory, stylistics and language and gender. In my research I have investigated literary critical, academic, instructional and autobiographical discourses. Currently, with colleagues, I am involved in an extensive research project which, within a pragmatic and discourse analytic framework, focuses on the rapidly increasing and diversifying uses, functions and meanings of English in the domains of media, education and professional life within the Finnish society.

During the period of 1 August, 2003 to 31 July 31, 2004 I am on sabbatical, doing research as a senior researcher of the Academy of Finland (‘varttunut tutkija’).
