Sarwat Anjum

I am a doctoral researcher at the Centre for Applied Language Studies (CALS), University of Jyväskylä. My doctoral research is a critical ethnography informed by decolonial perspectives, situated at the intersection of TESOL and Applied Linguistics in the Global South. Focusing on English language education in higher education in Pakistan, my research examines how coloniality, language ideologies, and linguistic and epistemic hierarchies are reproduced, negotiated, and challenged through everyday educational practices.

My broader research interests include decolonial TESOL, critical applied linguistics, multilingualism, translanguaging, language ideologies, linguistic and epistemic justice, teacher and learner identities, and critical language pedagogy. Through critical ethnographic and reflexive approaches, my work foregrounds local knowledges and multilingual experiences and explores possibilities for more equitable, contextually grounded, and pluriversal futures in language education.
