The lecture explores how AI technologies are reshaping childhood at home, in schools, and across society. It examines the risks of AI-saturated environments and discusses how parents, educators, and policymakers can protect children’s rights and well-being.
Bio: Andra Siibak is Professor of Media Studies and Deputy Head of Research and Development at the Institute of Social Studies, University of Tartu, Estonia. Her research focuses on children’s use of AI technologies and the internet, including datafication of childhood, digital parenting, privacy, surveillance, smart technologies, and cyber risks such as deepfakes, phishing, scams, and misinformation. She has co-authored two monographs “Datafied Childhoods: Data Practices and Imaginaries in Children’s Lives” (Peter Lang, 2021), and “Children and AI: Changing Digital Lives” (Palgrave, forthcoming in July 2026). Currently she is co-editing a Routledge Handbook on Digital Privacy and Surveillance Through the Lifecourse and working on her monograph in Estonian “Children in the world of artificial (un)intelligence”.
