Gabriella Keszthelyi, PhD
Mathematician, Science Communicator, Assistant Professor at the TU Budapest (BME). Her main research area is dynamical systems and chaos theory. She is a seasoned lecturer both on and off the cathedra having taught Probability and Statistics to a various audience (including engineers, psychologist, laymen). Her current focus bridges mathematics and cognitive science, centering on the perception of probability, heuristics, and cognitive biases in estimating probability. She is the author of the pop-science book on probability, What colour is probable?, published in 2025.
The book is an accessible guide that tackles the fundamental question: Why is the world of probabilities such difficult terrain for all of us? It concisely leads the reader through the history of probability theory using clear, practical, and engaging examples. Beyond the theory, the book shares fascinating, related facts and delves into the numerous apparent contradictions and cognitive biases that prevent people from correctly assessing the probability of events occurring.
