The contents of the pictures vary according to what subject was being taught.

The pictures used in religious teaching usually showed some event from the Bible; for example Lehmann’s Biblical Images of The Old Testament: Moses is Found, David and Goliath, or from Nelson’s Biblical Images: The Baptism of Jesus, the Holy Communion, Jesus feeding the 5000, et cetera.

The purpose of the pictures was to help the learner “see” what happened.
