The goal of the pictures for Local Studies and Geography was to depict particular scenery; for example from the Geographical Pictures of Finland series by Valistus: Helsinki, the Mänttä factory and its surroundings, or Aavasaksa in Midsummer night’s sunshine. Foreign collections of pictures depicted foreign conditions; for example from Lehmann’s Geographical Characteristics: New York, a Norwegian Fjord or the city of Venice.
