Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy
Specialized in research on social, political and cultural transformations, the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy is one of the leading units in the social sciences in Finland. Our strengths include high quality of research, good international reputation, active participation in public discussion, supportive and student friendly environment. The department provides teaching at all levels of university curriculum and is strong especially in doctoral education. The disciplines of the department include philosophy, political science, sociology, social and public policy, social work and gender studies. In addition, there are three Master’s Programmes at the department leading to an advanced university degree, including Civil Society, Cultural Policy, and Development and International Cooperation.
