Timo Hinrichs’ research focuses on the role of physical activity and exercise in maintaining mobility, functional capacity and participation in older adults and people with chronic health conditions. His work addresses how mobility limitations emerge, how they influence everyday life, and how targeted interventions can support independence, recovery and quality of life.
He is particularly interested in person-centred approaches that connect exercise and physical activity promotion with people’s daily environments. This includes interventions to increase walking and reduce sedentary behaviour, rehabilitation strategies after health events such as stroke, and approaches that help people remain active despite chronic disease or mobility limitations.
Across his research, mobility is understood not only as physical capacity, but also as a prerequisite for participation in community life. Digital, sensor- and map-based methods are used as tools to study real-life behaviour and to design interventions that are relevant for healthcare, rehabilitation and public health practice.
His publications are available via ORCID.
