Methodology

Times Higher Education (THE)

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings evaluates universities across all their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. The ranking uses 13 performance indicators that are grouped into five areas: Teaching (the learning environment) (30 %); Research (volume, income and reputation) (30 %); Citations (research influence)(30 %); International outlook (staff, students and research) (7,5 %); and Industry income (knowledge transfer) (2,5 %).

THE subject rankings use the same set of indicators as the university ranking but the indicators are weighed to suit for the individual subjects.

QS World University Rankings

QS ranking evaluates universities according to academic reputation (40 %), employer reputation (10 %), faculty/student ratio (20 %), citations per faculty (20 %), international faculty ratio (5 %) and international student ratio (5 %).

QS World University Rankings by Subject ranks the world’s top universities in individual subject areas, covering 51 subjects. Ranking is based on four components academic reputation, employer reputation, research citations per paper and H-index.  Components are weighed  for each discipline.

ShanghaiRanking's Global Academic Ranking of World Universities ARWU

ARWU uses six indicators to rank world universities, including the number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, number of highly cited researchers selected by Clarivate Analytics, number of articles published in journals of Nature and Science, number of articles indexed in Science Citation Index - Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index, and per capita performance of a university. More than 2000 universities are ranked by ARWU every year, and the best 1000 are published. From the subjects of JYU  ranking covers mainly natural science, health and sports related science, psychology and social science.

In the NTU ranking performance measurements are composed of eight indicators. The indicators represent scientific paper performance: research productivity (25 %), research impact (35 %) and quality (40 %).
