Philosophy at the Dept. of Social Sciences and Philosophy is both "continentally" and "analytically" oriented and has a strong tradition in philosophical anthropology, in particular. No sharp dichotomy between theoretical and practical philosophy is assumed, although the two Chairs are designated to these fields.

Currently, historical and systematic research is carried out in the following areas (among others): the philosophy of mind and personhood, social ontology, theories of recognition, the philosophy of education, the relationship between ethics and metaphysics, medieval philosophy, German idealism, pragmatism, and critical theory.
