Department of Communication

The mission of the Department of Communication is to produce high-quality research in the field of communication and media, to provide critical and ethical academic education for future communication and media professionals, and to participate actively in the international research community and the Finnish society.

The interdisciplinary department comprises four subjects:  Intercultural Communication, Journalism, Organizational Communication & PR, and Speech Communication.

In the area of research, the focus of the Department of Communication is on Communication, Future and the Networked World. The research profile comprises the following three core areas: (1) Working Life Communication and Communication Professions, (2) Crises, Issues and Innovation in Organizational Contexts, and (3) Implications of Technological Development and Internationalization on Communication and Media.

In the area of education, the goal is to prepare the students for work in communication and media professions and guarantee the required competence in the work-life of the future.
