Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student will be able to
- identify the main trends and directions in current research on language (use) as a socially and culturally embedded phenomenon
- understand current debates concerning the intersection of language, communication, and society
- critically reflect upon the role of language (use) in ongoing social processes and current societal transformations
- apply the relevant theoretical and methodological tools for analyzing the role of language (use) in such processes.

Content
The aim of this course is to familiarize students with the main trends and directions in current research on language (use) as a socially and culturally embedded phenomenon, with an eye on the relevance of the latter to better understanding processes and practices of intercultural communication.

Assessment criteria
Passing the course requires completion of all required assignments in line with stated learning outcomes. An 80% attendance requirement is applied.
