About

About the laboratory

ALADDIN was founded in 2018 as an umbrella to various projects undertaken in the Faculty of Information Technology at the University of Jyväskylä. The laboratory's central themes include digitalization, design and optimization, while each individual project has a specific topic of their own. The laboratory produces publications based on the research conducted within the projects, and the photo gallery and event sections offer a closer look at what is going on at the moment. The website also provides access to some useful tools as well as design optimization benchmarks free for use.

Idea

In One Thousand and One Nights, Aladdin made use of magic and teamed up with some very different characters in order to win the challenges of their world. In the current world, this magic could be called creativity, and while today’s challenges are very different from those of the stories, the idea of collaboration has never lost its importance. We at ALADDIN wish to be as adventurous and imaginative as the characters in these stories in seeking the best solutions to our issues of interest and finding new ways of cooperation and research.

Mission

Creativity and rationality do not necessarily need to rule each other out. We at ALADDIN believe in a combination that can utilize the best sides of both approaches. Therefore, the laboratory aims to enable digital creativity with the help of applied mathematics. The application areas of mathematics are vast, so it can provide an interesting platform for the use of creativity in the field of digital solutions and design questions.

Vision

ALADDIN aims to be a site of fruitful cooperation between different projects as well as between research and business life. We believe that better results can be achieved when each participant from a different field contributes with what they know best and helps to create a space of sharing. In this space it is possible to find solutions that benefit both the scientific community as well as business life.
