Lecture series 2026–2027: Small and great forces: from corporations to ecosystems

The lecture series "Small and Great Forces: From Corporations to Ecosystems" examines how diverse actors, ranging from global giants to nearly imperceptible organisms and the invisible structures of organizations, shape our society and environment. The series traverses fields of industrial policy and technological development, moving toward multi-species everyday life and the internal tensions within institutions. Together, these lectures reveal how choices, strategies, and interactions across different scales intertwine, influencing the construction of our past, present, and future.

FM Alicja Staniszewska: What can a tick teach us about migration, climate change, and Finnish forests

Tuesday 3.11.2026 at 18.00-19.30.

A tick is a small creature, but it can change how a forest feels. In this lecture, we will follow ticks, tiny blood-sucking parasites, to open a wider conversation about migration, climate change, health, belonging, and everyday life in Finnish forests. The lecture will include elements of a workshop, so we can engage in interactive conversation and explore embodied methods of multispecies research. Participants are invited to reflect on their own forest memories, bodily encounters, and learned habits. The lecture will be held in a mixed-language format, mainly in English and Finnish. No specific language background is required, and speakers of all languages are warmly welcome.
