Joint Master's Degree Programme in Action Neuroscience

The Joint Master's Degree Programme in Action Neuroscience combines neuroscience, biomechanics and signal processing. You will explore the brain basis of the neuromechanics of human movement and gain a deeper understanding of how the brain and body work together. This knowledge helps explain and improve human behaviour and performance.

You will study at both the University of Jyväskylä in Finland and the Université Bourgogne Europe in France, gaining international expertise in a rapidly emerging motor neuroscience field among sport and movement sciences.

In the Joint Master's Degree Programme in Action Neuroscience, you will learn how the brain and body work together and gain hands-on experience studying human sensorimotor system, movement and behaviour.  

Combining neurophysiology, neuroimaging, biomechanics, signal processing and data science, the programme prepares you to address challenges related to human performance, health, disease and rehabilitation. 

Action Neuroscience programme is focused on motor neuroscience bridging the gap between the brain research and sport and health sciences. The focus is on understanding the whole human sensorimotor system function and adaptation, including the nervous, muscular, tendinous, skeletal and other related systems. The aim is to educate experts with comprehensive understanding of neurophysiological mechanisms of human movement and actions. 

This globally unique programme combines neuroscience, movement science, and signal processing to understand human behaviour and performance, with studies at the University of Jyväskylä in Finland and Université Bourgogne Europe in France.

Experience two academic cultures, earn two international degrees 

As a joint degree student, you will study at both the University of Jyväskylä (JYU) in Finland and Université Bourgogne Europe (UBE) in France. You will benefit from JYU's expertise in neuroimaging (EEG, MEG, fMRI, TMS, etc.), biomechanics, and the neurophysiological basis of brain function and motor actions, alongside UBE's strengths in cognitive neuroscience, clinical research, programming and artificial intelligence.  

By studying at two leading European universities, you will gain a truly international academic experience, learn from broad research and educational environments, and earn a degree from each University that is recognised everywhere. 

All teaching and study materials are provided in English.

Programme info

This globally unique programme combines neuroscience, movement science, and signal processing to uncover the neurophysiological mechanisms behind human behaviour and performance.

  • Two-year full-time programme (120 ECTS credits)
  • Application period once a year in January  
  • The programme is delivered fully in English
  • Studies begin in August, with no mid-point entry to the programme
  • From this programme, you will graduate with two Masters of Sports Sciences from the University of Jyväskylä and Université Bourgogne Europe.

Tuition fee

€12,000 first year (JYU)

€3,950 € second year (UBE)

  • Erasmus mobility fundings available for all students
  • Students from non-EU/EEA countries are liable to pay a tuition fee but can apply for a scholarship after their first year of studies
  • Early Bird discount available

  • The next application period is from 7 to 28 January 2027.
  • Apply by completing the online form available in the Studyinfo.fi portal during the application period.
  • To apply, you need to have a suitable educational background and show proof of your English skills as mentioned in the criteria. Remember also to include the attachments specified in the programme’s admission criteria and listed on the application form.
